Navies around the world need to perform a variety of missions from Maritime Security Operations in territorial waters to Power Projection including interventions on external theaters of operations, and from coastal environments to the deep sea.
The highly successful CAPTAS product range offers solutions for every type of Anti-Submarine Warfare mission and for every size of ship.
During the last 40 years, Low Frequency Variable Depth Sonars (VDS) have proven their operational superiority to cope with any environmental (i.e. bathythermal) condition to detect, locate and classify more and more stealthy and capable submarines. CAPTAS solutions have been precursors in this field and are today the undisputed leaders of the market.
With more than 60 systems ordered or in service today, the CAPTAS products are praised by the leading ASW Navies in the world for their unique ASW performance and reliability that is key given the harsh operating conditions of this kind of systems.
- The CAPTAS-4 (or S2087) equips first-tier ASM frigates such as the British Type 23 and Type 26 frigates, the French FREMMs, the Italian FREMMs, the Spanish F110s, and the Chilean T-23.
- The CAPTAS-2 is the best compromise of compactness and performance for medium-sized frigates and is on board many ships around the world.
- CAPTAS-1 is a system adapted to small corvettes. It is the most recent variation of the CAPTAS product range. Its use has been validated at sea and it is already successful in export.
Each product is compatible with the BlueScan® multi-sensor integrated sonar suite.
It should be noted that early 2020, two French Navy FREMM Frigates – both fitted with CAPTAS-4 - won the US Navy's "Hook'em" award for their exceptional ability to find and track submarines.
The CAPTAS solutions share the same technological pedigree based on sea-proven common acoustic building blocks (the transmission rings and the receiving array) as well as electronics and software modules. Improvements on one of the products benefits to the whole family, keeping it state-of-the-art at any time.
In a world where Navies are facing growing and sometimes unexpected threats and challenges, Anti-Submarine Warfare is resurging as a key discipline for the 21st century and CAPTAS product range offers the best solutions to ensure Navies effectiveness and safety at sea.
