Thales in the UK: keeping London moving safely
Thales in the UK has an impressive track record designing and delivering transport operating systems for high profile projects.
The Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines between them carry around 1.3 million passengers a day – more than many European countries carry on their entire rail networks.
Known as the Four Lines, together, they make up nearly 40 per cent of the underground; however, they also include the oldest part of the network, built in 1863.
That’s why Thales in the UK is currently delivering an automatic train control system as part of a modernisation programme known as 4LM.
Delivering huge benefits to London’s underground system
The new system will be installed in sections across the Four Lines between now and 2021 with the main benefits being delivered by 2022:
- Up to 32 trains per hour, will operate on the core sections of these lines
- Peak passenger capacity increased by an average of 33 %
- 11,00 jobs created or sustained by the programme
- 60 apprenticeships created or sustained by the programme
Thales’s comprehensive solution includes management, design, development, manufacturing, supply, delivery, construction, installation, integration, testing, commissioning and migration.
In order to deliver the programme, Thales and London Underground have adopted a ‘One Team’ approach whereby both organisations work as partners to maximise the people power and benefits of co-location.
